Kotaku has heard from some affected that, yes, most employees were informed of the decision today. The first day of E3. About as busy a day in the games press as you’re ever going to get, meaning it’s as good a chance they’re going to get off burying the news under a flood of trailers and game announcements.
The studio had apparently been working on THQ’s next UFC game, which is obviously no longer needed.
We’ve contacted THQ for confirmation, and will update if we hear back.
UPDATE – THQ has confirmed the closure, telling Kotaku:
THQ confirms that today’s announcement regarding the UFC license transition will affect the company’s San Diego studio. THQ is working closely with those relevant staff to either find possible employment within the company, or potentially with EA.
