Perhaps youâve seen the stack of Tony Hawk: Shred skateboard bundles sitting at your local video game store. You might want to get used to them, because the gameâs first week sales number are very, very low.
A word to publishers: Taking your franchise away from a developer two weekâs before the release of the next game in the series doesnât make for strong first week sales.

Thatâs pretty abysmal, but it really isnât much of a surprise. Considering the poor critical and retail reception Tony Hawk: Ride received, Iâm surprised the Tony Hawk: Shred even exists. Giving the sequel a green light was a real gamble for publisher Activision, and it did not pay off. The end result is a game thatâs not selling and development studio Robomodo having to lay off a large portion of its staff.
At least we now know that a lack of snowboarding wasnât the reason the first game failed, right?
