From Fellini to Ford. From Clouzot to Capra. And everything in between. Online movie site Mubi.com is making its way to the PS3 and bringing its fantastic library of cinema with it.
From the PlayStation Europe Blog: âWe are MUBI and we are basically transforming your PS3 console into your own online cinema. (You can still play games and all that, donât worry!) We couldnât resist the idea of everyone having their own exquisite film library-And thatâs it in a nutshell.â
A Mubi application will soon become available on the PS3, allowing users to stream some of cinemaâs best to the PlayStation 3. Mubi emphasizes quality over quantity. âPalm dâOr winners and simply films we think should have won awards. But thatâs not all. Weâll bring you exclusive online premieres, collaborations with international film festivals, and retrospectives of some of the best cinema the world has ever seen.â
Mubi members can also follow and interact with fellow members. (Some guy named Martin Scorsese?)
While Sony has only revealed that Mubi for European PS3 owners, the Mubi.com site is available to everyone (I just signed up as âbashcraftâ).
I havenât even started using Mubi yet, but reading through this Scorseseâs profile and seeing him list Michael Powellâs The Red Shoes, really makes me thinkâŠI should see The Red Shoes. I like the Powell films Iâve seen, and Scorsese always bangs on about how great The Red Shoes is â so does my mom. Iâve never seen it! And being in Japan hasnât made seeing it any easier.
Until now.
