If youāre here in the Panel Discussion programming block, you might be a lapsed comics reader, trying to find a way back to the JLA Satellite. Or you might someone killing time until you pick up your weekly Wednesday pull list. Or maybe youāve said goodbye to dozens of longboxes to embrace the promise of digital comics. Whichever it is, youāre still interested in the good stuff.
Welcome, then, to the Panel Discussion Dozen Duo, where I pick out just-released or out-soon comics that I think are worth paying attention to. Ready? Then, letās meet the sequential art thatāll be draining your wallet this week. Be sure to chime in with the books youāll be picking up or that you think everybody should be ready in the comments.
Iāve really enjoyed Jason Aaronās ornery run on Marvel Comicsā angriest superhero for the way itās reversed the characterās status quo. The titleās had Hulk at war with Banner, sometimes within the same body. This last storyline has seen Hulk trying to stay angry so Bannerās personality doesnāt reassert itself and Iām looking forward to seeing where Aaron leaves the charactersā relationship for Mark Waid to follow up on.
Honestly, Iām just glad this left-of-center series by James Robinson is getting its final issue out the door. Like its titular character, The Shade has been an un-superhero type of comic, filled with gothic motifs, family melodrama and a literary affectation thatās made it unlike most anything else on the stands. If youāre the least bit intrigued, hunt down those back issues. Thereās no guarantee that a book this idiosyncratic will be getting trade paperback collections.
