Earlier this week, I had to go to Mini-Bash’s school to observe his class. At the end of the class, all the kids went outside to play, while the parents introduced themselves.

We were supposed to say our names, who our kids were, something about our kids and something about ourselves. I said my name, that Mini-Bash is my kid, and that we had move to this area recently, that everyone had been extremely friendly welcoming and friendly.

It was pretty interesting! Wasn’t quite expecting this, but all the other parents said bad things about their kids — well, not bad things. But, for example, stuff like “My kid is pretty noisy” or “My kid might act good at school, but at home, he/she is a terror.” Nobody tried to play up something impressive or amazing their kids have done or can do. I guess the thinking is that they want to not only appear humble, but maybe excuse bad behavior. Honest and refreshing, perhaps?
