Typically, I refer to people whose name I have forgotten as āHey!ā or āMan.ā As in, āHey, whatās up, man?!ā My tactic is to mask my confusion or lack of confidence in remembering someoneās name with genuine enthusiasm, letting them know that Iām glad to see them, but I canāt refer to them by their given name at that moment. Luckily, I often get to speak with these people at events where theyāre forced to wear ID badges. Iāll distract them by pointing at a bar or other person during which time Iāll steal a glance at their badge.
I need a better system.
