'World's Thinnest 17-Inch Gaming Laptop' Comes In Any Color

Those are Maingear gaming laptops right there. That’s ridiculous. Also a beautiful trend that needs to be encouraged until our gaming laptops only exist in one dimension.

Maingear’s new Pulse 17 is getting there. Riding on the wave generated by Razer’s 14-inch Blade and 17-inch Blade Pro, as well as its own Pulse 14, Maingear’s Pulse 17 is essentially a PC game serving platter. It’s .85 inches thick, .03 inches thinner than the Razer Blade Pro. That makes it eligible for the “World’s Thinnest 17-Inch Gaming Laptop” title, though it’s got to share with MSI’s GS70

Along with being a tiny bit thinner than Razer’s offering, Maingear’s system is also customizable. Not only can users choose their hard drive setup, with up to a 1TB HDD and two 480GB SSD drives for storage — that’s a ton — they can also get the aluminium body custom laser-etched or painted any color they desire with Glasurit paint, the same stuff used to pain Porsches and BMWs. Come to me, pink skinny laptop. It’s also — and this I have to hear — has HD speakers and a subwoofer powered by Soundblaster Cinema.

Anything that diversifies the Pulse 17 in the growing skinny-ass laptop segment helps. As the market for systems like these grow, the machines themselves start looking a little same-y. They’ve all got the GeForce GTX 765M, because it’s the best available at the size. They’ve all got Killer network cards for the same reason. They’re all aluminum, because plastic would melt. They all won’t fit in standard 17-inch notebook cases, because they’re sprawling instead of towering.

So yeah, a coat of paint and a glowy keyboard can make the difference. Did I mention the glowy keyboard? You should probably just go to Maingear’s new product page and look at it yourself.
