At the recent Spring Festival Gala in China, 15 year-old Wei Caiqi served as āTime Girlā and spun around. A bunch.
Days before the gala was broadcasted, it was announced in the Chinese press that Wei would spin for four hours and start spinning faster as the Chinese New Year approached. And, well, thatās what it looks like she did.
Wei is related to famous dancer Yang Liping. In this clip, you can see both of them dancing together.
The Spring Festival Gala is the most watched entertainment show in the world, with over seven hundred million viewers tuning in.
As noted on China Smack, some on Sina Weibo, Chinaās Twitter, said Weiās recent performance was āboring,ā āpointless,ā and even ācruel.ā Others were impressed and pointed out that this was her familyās āunique skillā and said it was (or better yet, like) Sufi whirling
By one Sina Weibo userās estimate, Wei spun around 15,000 times.
Prior to the event, Wei said the twirling performance was a type of āspiritual cultivation,ā adding, āI feel grateful for the skill of twirling and this opportunity to perform at the Spring Festival Gala.ā
Just watching her twirl is dizzying.
