Yu-Gi-Oh And Hello Kitty Combine In New McDonald’s Happy Meal Crossover

The new toys are only available in Europe and will be gone before the end of April

McDonald’s latest attempt at getting kids (and weebs) excited about eating at the fast-food chain involves mixing Hello Kitty characters with Yu-Gi-Oh creatures to create new Happy Meal toys as part of a limited-time collaboration.

The popular trading card game Yu-Gi-Oh! has been around since 1999 and is based on the manga series that launched in 1996. Hello Kitty aka Kitty White was created in 1974 and has since appeared in numerous places alongside a roster of cute friends. And now, finally, we can all rest easy knowing that these two iconic franchises have been combined as part of a new McDonald’s promotion exclusively in Belgium.

As explained on the official McDonald’s Belgium website, the collaboration between the two brands started on March 6 and includes 10 new Happy Meal toys that merge Hello Kitty and Yu-Gi-Oh characters and creatures. Why? Do these brands share some interesting history or connection to one another? Stop asking questions and start consuming this fun promotional IP crossover event!

Looking on eBay, non-Belgium fans will have to fork over around $75 to get their hands on all of these new stuffed Happy Meal toys.

Here’s the full list of the Happy Meal combos:

My Melody as Dark Magician Girl

Tuxedosam as Obelisk the Tormentor

Kuromi as Slifer the Sky Dragon

Chococat as The Winged Dragon of Ra

Hello Kitty as Dark Magician

Cinnamoroll as Blue-Eyes White Dragon

Keroppi as Kuriboh

Pompompurin as Exodia the Forbidden One

Pochacco as Time Wizard

Badtz-maru as Red-Eyes Black Dragon

McDonald’s is teasing some sort of digital experience that will bring these toys “right in front of your eyes,” but I’ve not been able to find any footage of what that actually entails. Instead, looking on YouTube, it’s mostly 30-year-old dudes walking into McDonald’s to buy some Hello Kitty toys and complain about them in front of a camera.

So instead of watching that stuff, let’s watch the new commercial McDonald’s created for the crossover event.

This new collab is happening now and will continue until April 9 or until supplies last. Based on how fast McDonald’s previous Happy Meal events have gone—with stuff selling out amid crowds and greedy resellers—I suspect that this event will be over long before April 9.
