Good morning everyone! It’s only Monday, but I’m already thinking about eating more food than I should and passing out on the couch as I watch Mystery Science Theater 3000 episodes. A classic Thanksgiving tradition. Anyway, welcome to Morning Checkpoint, Kotaku’s daily round-up of news and other stuff you might care about. Today, we got Stellar Blade news, information on a game that might be at next month’s Game Awards, and how to play Battlefield 6 for free.
Battlefield 6′s free play week starts tomorrow
EA’s online war simulator, Battlefield 6, is one of the biggest games of 2025. And now you can play (some) of the shooter’s chaotic multiplayer for free. Or well, very soon you’ll be able to play for nothing. Starting on Tuesday, EA is making part of Battlefield 6‘s multiplayer free. You’ll need to download and install BF6 Redsec, the free battle royale spin-off.
From November 25 until December 2, Redsec players will have access to three maps: Siege on Cairo, Blackwell Fields, and Eastwood, as well as a few game modes, including Conquest. So if you’ve been wanting to check out Battlefield 6 multiplayer, this Thanksgiving week is a perfect time to hop in and get sniped 300 times on Blackwell Fields. At least the other two maps are good.
Star Wars Visions seems to have copied a fan film’s choreography
'Star Wars: Visions' has been accused of ripping off fight choreography from a fan film
• The Star Wars fan film was made by 'Dune' stunt double Lorenz Hideyoshi
• The 'Visions' short was made by Indian animation studio 88 Pictures and directed by Ishan Shukla

Over the weekend, a video directly comparing a fight scene from the Star Wars anime series Visions to a fight scene from a fan-made Star Wars short went viral on social media, largely because it looks like the big, official production might have ripped off the smaller fan film.
In the video, it does look a lot like a fight scene from Star Wars Visions season two episode seven copies many of the moves and camera angles from a 2019 Star Wars fan film known as Dark Jedi. That episode of Visions was produced by Indian animation studios 88 Pictures, but was overseen, as all Star Wars projects are, by Disney and Lucasfilm.
Exodus is apparently making an appearance at The Game Awards
Exodus, a Mass Effect spiritual successor from some former BioWare folks, is about a year away from release and will likely get a new trailer at next month’s trailer extravaganza, aka The Game Awards. This news was spotted by the gaming leaks subreddit and comes from a new Hasbro earnings call. Hasbro owns Wizards of the Coast, which is publishing the sci-fi shooter-RPG that looks an awful lot like a new, next-gen Mass Effect. We’ve not heard much about Exodus for some time now. Hopefully, the new trailer includes more Matthew McConaughey.
Stellar Blade 2 job listing appears
Shift Up is working on Stellar Blade 2. We know that much. But that’s all we really know. However, a job listing seems to indicate that the new sequel to 2024’s popular character action game will be launching on multiple platforms. Once translated, the job listing explains that Stellar Blade 2 is “aiming for release on various platforms, including consoles and PC.” The original Stellar Blade launched exclusively on PlayStation 5 before making the leap to PC. It seems like this time around, Shift Up isn’t going to stick to one platform.
