Sonic X Shadow Generations
Sonic X Shadow Generations sees a beloved character finally getting his due, after Sega did him dirty for so many years. Shadow the Hedgehog’s second shot at headlining a game has some of the tightest high-speed platforming of any Sonic game to date, and puts respect on the name of its antihero after almost two decades of relegating him to a background character.
Shadow Generations has no doubt been called a “tribute” or “love letter” to its main character, but I think of it more as an apology, one that feels like a perfect example of how a Sonic game can live up to the speed it promises while feeling great to play. Everything else about 2024 has been bad but the Year of Shadow is going strong. — Kenneth Shepard
