Nintendoâs post-Switch 2 launch plans continue to be all over the place. After an underwhelming Nintendo Partner Showcase last week, itâs returned with a surprise Indie World Showcase for early August. The brief presentation will have updates on games for both of Nintendoâs current consoles, and Iâm sure will not give false hope to every Hollow Knight: Silksong fan out there desperately waiting for it to shadow-drop any day now.
âJoin us this Thursday, August 7 at 6am PT for a new Indie World Showcase!â the company posted on X on Tuesday. âTune in for roughly 15 minutes of new announcements and updates on indie games coming to Nintendo Switch 2 and Nintendo Switch.â Thatâs plenty of time to reveal release dates for Silksong and Hades 2, and maybe even officially announce Cuphead 2 while theyâre at it.Â
On the other hand, these Indie World Showcase events usually highlight smaller, lesser-known games from emerging studios. I wouldnât expect Silksong, the most wishlisted game on Steam right now and one of the most anticipated games coming to any platform in the near future, to be hidden away in one of Nintendoâs smallest livestreams of the year. Then again, if anyone would do that, it would be Nintendo. [Update 8/6/2025 11:23 a.m. ET: Multiple leakers of varying notoriety say you absolutely should not expect Silksong at the Indie World showcase].
Hades 2 is also expected to release any day now and, unlike Silksong, which is being promoted for Xbox Series X/S and PS5, will be a timed exclusive on Switch 1 and Switch 2. There are also a bunch of follow-ups to hit indie games like Slay the Spire 2 and Enter the Gungeon 2 currently in the works and Iâd love updates on where theyâre at. Indie games were a big part of making the Switch 1âs first year feel special back in the days before Steam Deck and other PC gaming handhelds had exploded onto the market. However, this time around, thanks to backwards compatibility, thereâs no shortage of great indie games to check out on Switch 2 right now.
