Octopath Traveller II’s visual stylings are perfect for a handheld platform. They have a dioramic quality that is visually alluring and looks great on the Steam Deck’s screen. On top of that, Octopath Traveller II’s episodic nature makes for a great travel companion. Whereas larger, more ambitious RPGs might be hard to pause when you’re getting off a flight or a train, the smaller, focused narratives that arise from Octopath Traveller II’s more compartmentalized approach to storytelling feel much easier to enjoy in smaller increments of time.
