The Whore of the Orient is the Next Game From LA Noire's Creator

Brendan McNamara, whose LA Noire project resulted in a good game and a shuttered studio, has ended up at the same place many of his ex-employees did: filmmaker George Miller’s KMM Studios.

He’s there to develop a game called Whore of the Orient, which has been described as “one of the great untold stories of the 20th century”. I don’t know about that, but I do know it’s one of the great announced video game names of the 21st century.

While no details on the project have been revealed yet, the game’s title sure sounds like it refers to the nickname the Chinese city of Shanghai earned for itself in the early decades of the 20th century, where it was a haven for Western traders. Indeed, certain areas in and around the city were under the direct control of British, American and French authorities, and were renowned as being, well, more than a little shady.

You know the start of Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, where Indy has the shootout in the Chinese bar? Yeah, that was Shanghai.

I wouldn’t say it’s an untold story (unless there’s a particular narrative in question), but if that’s indeed when and where the game is set, then yeah, it’ll make for an interesting location!
