Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 Becomes Second Game To Win Every Major GOTY Award

The only other game to snag these five major wins was 2023's popular RPG Baldur's Gate 3

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 was already one of the most award-winning games of last year, racking up wins at the Game Awards and across numerous websites. Now, after winning the BAFTA award for Best Game of 2025, the massively successful French RPG has done something only one other game has done before: Win all five of the major Game of the Year awards.

On April 17, the 2026 BAFTA Game Awards were held, and unsurprisingly, last year’s breakout hit RPG Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 was nominated in a few categories. One of those noms was for the night’s biggest and most prestigious award, Best Game. It was competing against Arc Raiders, Blue Prince, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, Ghost of Yotei, and Dispatch. But, despite facing stiff competition, Expedition 33 was triumphant and won the BAFTA for Best Game of 2025. It also won in the “Debut Game” and “Best Performer in a Leading Role” categories, too, with Jennifer English snagging the latter for her performance as Maelle.

With that win, the French RPG has now won Game of the Year at these five game award events:

  • Golden Joystick Awards
  • The Game Awards
  • DICE Awards
  • Game Developers Choice Awards
  • BAFTA Game Awards

While some games, like Elden Ring and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, were able to win GOTY at a few of these events, only one other game, Baldur’s Gate 3, has ever pulled off this impressive five-out-of-five victory sweep across all of the major award shows before. Of course, I’m not surprised Clair Obscur was able to win these five GOTY awards across these five different shows. The RPG has been praised endlessly by fans and critics for its back-to-basics turn-based RPG gameplay, engaging storyline, and gorgeous art style.

Now, the question is what game will be the next to pull off this incredible accomplishment? Will it be another single-player RPG? (Probably.)
