What if the Final Fantasy VII remake trilogy actually becomes a quadrilogy? Why is Masahiro Sakurai blackmailing Nintendo to let him host more Kirby Air Riders Directs? Is EA actually getting ready to shadow-drop Battlefield 6âs battle royale mode when season one goes live next week? Itâs another edition of Morning Checkpoint, Kotakuâs daily roundup of gaming news and culture. Warner Bros. which owns a bunch of gaming studios, is officially entertaining acquisition offers after a string of epically bad mergers. Donât read the press release. Itâll melt your brain.
Final Fantasy VII Remake part 3 could get a DLC expansion or even a fourth game
Director Naoki Hamaguchi told Wccftech that more content is on the table for the ongoing remake series. âOnce we release the third installment, there is the possibility of having a DLC for that third installment,â he said during Tokyo Game Show last month. âWith the conclusion of the Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy, thereâs probably going to be a much wider audience for Final Fantasy as a whole. Whether we bring another new DLC or a full title, thatâs something we are actively considering.â
Honestly, if Hamaguchi is talking about an entire fourth âpost-remakeâ Final Fantasy VII spin-off, I wouldnât be opposed to it. I love the world and the characters and theyâve clearly nailed the combat and are growing into the open world design bits at the trilogy progresses. Why stop? Final Fantasy VII forever. Maybe even annualize it. It could be the next Assassinâs Creed.
A second Nintendo Direct has hit Kirby Air Riders
Masahiro Sakurai will apparently get another 60 minutes to explain what the additional action button in the sequel does. âThe livestreamed presentation will last roughly 60 minutes and feature more info on the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 game,â Nintendo says. How?!
Florida is going after Roblox
Attorney General James Uthmeier announced yesterday that heâll be âissuing criminal subpoenas to Robloxâ to get to the bottom of the platform allegedly being a âbreeding ground for predators to gain access to our kids.â The political stunt comes as lawsuits swirl around the popular game-making social app over child safety concerns.
Weâre reportedly getting two Halo games in 2026
Reb Gaming reports (via The Game Post) that Halo Studios is working on two projects for next year. One is the rumored Unreal Engine remake of the original Halo: Combat Evolved that will bring the franchise to PS5 for the first time ever. The other is reportedly a Fortnite-style standalone multiplayer-focused spin-off. Whether itâs an evolving UGC sandbox or not remains to be seen. Halo Infinite was previously rumored to be getting a battle royale component but it was reportedly scrapped.
Battlefield 6âs battle royale mode is rumored to arrive next week
According to leaker Shaun Weber, it will arrive at the start of season one on October 28. It will apparently include Solos, Duos, Trios, Quads. There is also a rumored Gauntlet mode in which teams compete to finish missions with the lowest-scoring teams getting the boot.
Persona 5âs Joker is coming to Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds
The Mario Kart World rivalâs latest free update arrives on October 22. The RPG character will be added as part of a festival event with exclusive rewards that runs until October 26.
Starfield probably wonât come to PS5 this year
NateTheHate, who previously leaked the port, reaffirmed that it could get announced in 2025 but the plan isnât for it to ship until 2026. Personally, Iâm more curious to hear about the next expansion. Former systems designer Bruce Nesmith recently said the procedural generation system for planets held Starfield back from hitting the same heights as Skyrim.
