Signalis has a number of things going for it: an awesome, retro PS1 feel, lo-fi sci-fi horror vibes of the kind that made Alien Isolation so striking, and you can play it on Steam Deck. The aesthetic and style of game makes it perfect for the form factor, and it’s a really great game too, so much so that it convinced Kotaku’s Luke Plunkett, who is on the record as not loving horror games, to spend a considerable amount of time with it. In his own words:

“Imagine the original Resident Evil games, with their set perspective, inventory management and light puzzle-solving. Now throw in some of Alien Isolation or System Shock’s ‘rummaging through a cursed sci-fi space’ appeal. Then present the whole thing in this absolutely filthy (and I mean this in the best way possible) PS1 aesthetic, with a heavy dose ofTsutomu Nihei in the character design. That’s Signalis.”
