Arguably the best Mario 3D platformers ever are finally available again. Super Mario Galaxy 1 & 2 releases on October 2 for Switch 1, alongside two new amiibo. The remasters arrive just in time for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie coming in April 2026.
Both games originally came to the Wii, and only the first Super Mario Galaxy has been re-released since. The planet-hopping gravity-focused platformer was briefly available as part of the Super Mario 3D All-Stars collection released back in 2020 for the 35th anniversary of Super Mario Bros. It was only available for a limited time before it was pulled from sale, however, because Nintendo gonna Nintendo.
The games will cost $40 separately with a free performance upgrade for Switch 2, or can be purchased as a bundle for $70. Here’s Nintendo’s description: “Both titles feature improved UI, the option to play with button and stick or motion controls, an in-game music player, new Storybook content and enhanced resolution. Plus, a free update will be available on Nintendo Switch 2 that adds 4K resolution support for both titles.”
Super Mario Galaxy 2 is essentially an expanded version of the original, taking many of its mechanics and puzzles to new, more intricate environments. It might be the best Mario game ever. Mario and Lumina and Rosalina amiibo will arrive on April 2, 2026 at the time of the movie’s release.
